Teresa & Penny
We are Teresa and Penny, two sisters with lovely families and strong faith. Also, we really love flowers!
Our goal in starting our flower farm was to be able to engage in wonderful, edifying work while providing fresh, specialty cut flowers to the community. We want to share the joy flowers can bring with those around us. Why? Flowers feed the soul.
Penny spent a couple of decades raising and homeschooling her family of five kids, after which she went to nursing school and became a Registered Nurse. Teresa and her husband also have five children. She previously worked at the local university for a couple of decades, after which she became a commercial embroiderer for a local custom advertising products business. However, the song of the flowers called our hearts and occupied our minds. So we talked and planned beginning in 2021.
In the first quarter of 2022, we quit our day jobs and began to devote our full efforts to the new farm. We formally set up the business (LLC, tax number, bank account, wholesale accounts, etc.), planted our field with flowers, and engaged in business activities in the form of on-farm sales and farmers' markets. We had even begun to regularly post about our infant farm and flowers on our new social media accounts.
By June of that year, we realized with a chagrin that we needed to enlarge and reconfigure our field, install a French drain, and actually rework our master plan -- not uncommon for new businesses, but it can be a bit daunting none-the-less, we must say. The imbalanced and flooding field we were struggling with gave us convincing reasons to address the needs toot sweet. Better sooner than later. So ...
With a gulp and a sigh, beginning in July 2022, we stopped growing flowers in order to do the months-long hard work ahead of us in the field. We ripped out the existing crops, installed the French drain, changed from long rows to a block-and-row system, and installed irrigation and other infrastructure necessary. While we were at it, we enlarged the working field and made it more user friendly -- and we think more attractive overall. We did have a small crop in the fall of 2022, but our vision and efforts were really for the next spring.
The year 2023 marked our formal opening of our family flower farm. We forged ahead with prayers in our hearts and plans in our hands. We finally got our website up-and-running (and, wow, designing and setting one up from scratch was a tall order for these two ole girls!). Also, our farm's social media accounts became an avenue for us to reach our customers regularly. We looked forward to each coming season's work, the beauty of the field as it changes through the seasons, and the satisfaction of knowing that we are providing a delightful product that can enrich lives and sooth the soul.
From 2024 on, we continue to enjoy the vigorous work of flower farming, the delight of meeting other Arkansas flower farmers and those in the floral industry, and the satisfaction of knowing we are playing a part in the joy creation brings by providing fresh flowers to our fellow Arkansans and visitors to this beautiful state!
We want to say a special thanks to our family members who have generously taken their time and effort to pitch in and help us on the farm in times of tall seedlings needing to get in the ground, extreme heat, weeding, raking, and broken bones. We have had deaths, births, floods, droughts, family move out, family move in, out-of-town visits and out-of-town visitors, flu, COVID, strokes, falls, broken bones ... and more ... while getting our enterprise going. It's been a challenge, but we've not done it on our own. Powerful prayers and loving people have given us the strength to push on. We look around and are grateful to be here at The Beautiful Bee Flower Farm ... yes, happily so. We are glad for you, too!
We pray our flowers will be part of what regularly feeds your soul. Thanks, Y'all, for your support and encouragement!
